Why Rian Johnson Is Thankful For Negative Star Wars: The Last Jedi Comments

Image
8 hours ago Star Wars is one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time, and is showing no real signs of slowing down anytime soon. George Lucas' colorful galaxy has entertained moviegoers for decades, with generations of fans brought up on the space opera. But Star Wars fans are also fiercely protective of the property, resulting in backlash that usually lives online. The Last Jedi 's Rian Johnson knows this all too well, as his divisive sequel caught some flack for his bold narrative choices. And it turns out that he's happy about the push back he got online. Rian Johnson purposefully subverted fan expectations in The Last Jedi , especially when it came to things like Leia's force abilities and Rey's parentage. While Lucasfilm was thrilled with his efforts enough that he'll be developing another movie for the franchise, the filmmaker did get some hate on social media-- particularly Twitter. Rian Johnson recently appeared on CinemaBlend's

The Batman’s Zoe Kravitz Cut Her Hair, And DC Fans Are Freaking

Image
20 minutes ago That looks purr-fect, Catwoman! The Instagram post may just be an innocent selfie, but fans jumped right to what they’re excited to see next from Zoë Kravitz on the big screen – her Selina Kyle! The comments are swarmed with fans freaking about her new hairdo! “Meow,” “Catwoman” and “Ms. Kyle” are among words in reaction to the photo. It’s a huge transformation for the 30-year-old actress from before. She’s been donning long hair (sometimes dreads) for quite some time, but she has worn a pixie cut before! It’s a good look for the Big Little Lies star, and while she doesn’t say a thing about it being connected to her Catwoman look, it has to be... right? Selina Kyle has had tons of different looks and hairstyles over the years, both in the comics and on the big screen. But, her most recent famous look includes the same pixie cut Zoë Kravitz has right now! It’s helpful for the character’s cat ears and goggles to not be bothered by long hair. She can hide h

Colin Trevorrow Is Donating His Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Residuals To A Great Cause

Image
1 hour ago Having already left his mark on the Jurassic Park franchise with 2015’s Jurassic World , Colin Trevorrow was supposed to jump to a galaxy far, far away and direct Star Wars: Episode IX , which we now know as The Rise of Skywalker . Due to creative differences, Trevorrow ended up departing Episode IX , but he’ll get residuals from this Star Wars movie, and he plans on giving that money to a great cause rather than keep it for himself. Colin Trevorrow has announced that he’ll be donating his Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker profits to the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, which is located in Berkshire, England. In a statement to Deadline, Trevorrow attributed his decision to donate the money as a way to honor Star Wars mastermind George Lucas. Trevorrow said: Fiona Devine, the CEO and co-founder of the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, said in her own statement that she and everyone else at the hospice center are “blown away by this incredibly generous

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves further into a post- Endgame world, there are tons of questions that arise about what’s in store. When it comes to the original Avengers, we know who we will see again or why some will not be back, with the exception of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Where’s his solo movie, next cinematic appearance or upcoming Disney+ show on the MCU slate? Now, Mark Ruffalo doesn’t sound opposed to returning to his character by any means, it's just that there aren’t any plans set in stone yet. The actor has recently teased an upcoming meeting with Marvel Chief Kevin Feige. Here’s what he said: How exciting! It’s kind of awesome that Kevin Feige and Mark Ruffalo can just casually decide whether or not Hulk will continue participating in the massive comic book universe. Not to mention how the act

When Aquaman 2 Should Finally Start Filming

Image
2 hours ago After the success of James Wan’s Aquaman , which is still DC’s most successful film to date (for now), a sequel was all but inevitable. And as expected, Warner Bros. officially announced back in February that Aquaman 2 is on the way. However, in a surprising move, Aquaman 2 won’t be hitting theaters until 2022. Nevertheless, we are inching closer to booking a return trip to Atlantis, and we now have an idea when Aquaman 2 should finally start filming. According to Variety, Warner Bros. is looking to start filming Aquaman 2 in early 2021 in advance of the film’s December 2022 release date. So if all goes according to plan, the sequel film starring Jason Momoa will go before cameras in a little over a year or so. That’s still a long ways off, but with a rough shooting timeline in mind, it seems things are moving forward and that Warner Bros. has a plan for Aquaman 2 . The Variety article also notes that DC has tapped James Wan to return to direct the highl

Regarding why Avengers: Endgame scene was thrown on Disney+, Katherine Langford was told that it simply boiled down to fan interest. In her words: Katherine Langford talked about her time on Avengers: Endgame while plugging her latest movie, Knives Out , on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon . Langford’s involvement in Endgame was reported in October 2018, and shortly after the movie came out and she was nowhere to be seen, it was revealed that she’d been cast as the adult Morgan Stark, who Tony saw before dying due to using all the Infinity Stones to wipe out Thanos and his forces. For months fans have had to imagine how this conversation specifically unfolded, but thanks to Disney+ (which is offering a free seven-day trial), they can now watch it to their heart’s content. As for why this Avengers: Endgam

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Director J.J. Abrams Has A Simple Reason For Including Palpatine

Image
3 hours ago At Star Wars Celebration this year we got our first look at the movie that would be named The Rise of Skywalker but the moment that drew even more attention than the name, was the laugh. The end of the first trailer gave us the familiar laugh of The Emperor, a character we believed had perished at the end of The Return of the Jedi , but will be back in the new film. Many were shocked that the character will be playing a pivotal role in the final episode of the Skywalker Saga, but according to director J.J. Abrams, not including Emperor Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker would actually have been the stranger decision to make. According to Abrams... While I'm not sure I entirely agree with J.J. Abrams' argument to Uproxx here, I can certainly understand where it's coming from. While the Emperor only plays a direct role in events in one film in the original trilogy, his presence is felt from the minute his name is first mentioned in Star Wars: A N

Frozen II’s Kristen Bell Wants To Rescue Anna And Elsa From Disneyland

Image
4 hours ago Spoilers ahead for Frozen II Part of the magic of visiting Disney Parks is going to meet and greets with the iconic characters. Whether guests stand in line to see a few Disney princesses or notorious villians, they each converse to you completely in character with lines absent of reality beyond fairytales and galaxies far, far away. After Frozen II actress Kristen Bell visited Anna and Elsa with her kids, she was a bit concerned about whether the Disney princesses needed rescuing. Here’s what happened: Well, this is hilarious. Kristen Bell joked about how the Frozen princesses at Disneyland are not allowed to break out of character while their on the clock. No matter what she said, even considering she’s literally the voice of Anna – they were off in their own worlds talking about Arendelle and Olaf. While on The Kelly Clarkson Show , Kristen Bell talked about weird the experience is as an adult to converse with the Disney Princesses. But for the kids wh

The 'Everlasting Challenge' Of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, According To J.J. Abrams

Image
4 hours ago But if you ask director J.J. Abrams, it’s not the ‘ending’ aspects that were the biggest challenge to making Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker , but striving to have the movie stand on its own. As the filmmaker put it: J.J. Abrams shared this insight into the making of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with the Disney Twenty-Three publication, and he has a point. While sequels are obviously best enjoyed when you’ve seen the previous installments, they still need to work as stories that can be enjoyed on their own merits. That’s easier to pull off if you’re working with a sequel to just one movie, but in the case of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker , it has to follow up on the events of eight other movies, though obviously The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi take extra precedence. While I wouldn’t recommend anyone who hasn’t been on the Star Wars train before jump on with The Rise of Skywalker , Abrams and his team nonetheless had to ensure that Episode IX

The 5 Strangest Direct-To-Video Disney Movies

Image
4 hours ago Did you know Frozen II is one of only a few sequels Disney has released in theaters? EVER. Strange, right? The studio has so many beloved and icon characters under its umbrella, yet it hasn’t often continued to explore them on the big screen. How do you top “Happily Ever After” anyway? But as you may remember, for a period of time between the ‘90s and ‘00s, Disney pumped out a ton of direct-to-video sequels and prequels (and midquels even) starring the most famous characters in its vault. They’re… interesting. Especially these days when the studio drops massive budgets on continuing or repeating the stories of Simba or Belle. Disney made a ton of odd choices back in the day to give young audiences another fix of their favorite Disney Princesses and so forth! Now it’s time to relive some of the stranger entries of the bunch – oh, and they are all available on Disney+! So the animation studio must be proud of them… I guess? Check these out: Wait… How

Check Out Willem Dafoe’s Deleted Justice League Scenes In New Snyder Cut Images

Image
7 hours ago 16 years after he left his mark on the world of Marvel Comics by playing the Green Goblin in Spider-Man , Willem Dafoe made his DC movie debut in Aquaman , where he appeared as Nuidis Vulko, mentor to Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry. However, that wasn’t the first time that Dafoe played Vulko, as originally the plan was to introduce the character in Justice League and use him to flesh out Arthur’s past and status in Atlantis. Alas, like so many other things from that movie, Willem Dafoe’s Justice League appearance was scrapped. Now, over two years after its release, director Zack Snyder has posted some images of these Vulko scenes. Let’s start with one that places the man front and center. Along with having longer hair and wearing a different outfit than the one he wore in Aquaman , what stands out about Vulko in Justice League is that he looks more unkempt. Whether this is because he just fought against Steppenwolf as the Apokoliptan general stole Atlantis’ M

The Unique Advantage Mark Ruffalo Had With Making Dark Waters

Image
8 hours ago In the new film Dark Waters , Academy Award-nominated actor Mark Ruffalo plays a corporate defense attorney who winds up taking on an environmental lawsuit against a powerful chemical company on behalf of two West Virginia farmers. The film is based on the true story of lawyer Robert Bilott. As it turns out, Mark Ruffalo had a unique advantage with making Dark Waters , as he explained to CinemaBlend’s own Mike Reyes in an exclusive interview. Take a look: Hey, if you’re going to make a feature film dramatization of the events in the life of Robert Bilott, it probably helps a lot to have Robert Bilott! When portraying real-life people, actors aren’t always able to consult with the people they are playing to help with their performance, instead having to rely on second or third-hand information, or just taking their own creative license. That was not the case with Dark Waters because Mark Ruffalo had the advantage of the real Robert Bilott being available. Di

No Time To Die’s Ana De Armas Describes Her New Bond Girl

Image
8 hours ago As far as long-running franchises go, there are few quite as prolific as the James Bond movies. 007 has entertained moviegoers for decades, and Eon Productions is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Next up for the Martini-drinking MI6 agent is Cary Joji Fukunaga's No Time to Die , which will mark Daniel Craig's final movie as Bond. The cast is rounded out by faces old a new, including Knives Out 's Ana de Armas as newcomer Paloma. And now we have more of an idea about the character. The events of No Time to Die are being kept under wraps, as the upcoming spy blockbuster only recently wrapped principal photography. Fans are particularly eager to lean about the new characters that will be making their introduction in the 25th installment in the beloved property. Luckily Anna de Armas recently spoke to her upcoming Bond girl, saying: Well, that's certainly exciting. It looks like Paloma isn't going to be a picture perfect figure

Why The Irishman Focusing On An 82-Year-Old 'Feels Right,' According to Robert De Niro

Image
8 hours ago Martin Scorsese’s latest movie, The Irishman , follows Robert De Niro’s Frank Sheeran, who, at 82 years old, is looking back on his life as a World War II veteran and Mafia hitman. It turns out that Sheeran’s age at the start of the movie was among the main selling points for De Niro joining The Irishman , with the actor saying the following about this aspect of the Netflix release: Like Goodfellas , Casino and various other movies Martin Scorsese has directed, The Irishman is based off a true story, as it adapts the nonfiction book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt. The book delved into confessions that Frank Sheeran gave about his time working with the Bufalino crime family before he died in 2003. While The Irishman is obviously taking creative liberties with its source material, seeing an elderly Frank Sheeran reflect on his life remains intact. And while he’s not quite 82 years old yet, Robert De Niro sees the value of telling a story which

Ken Miles' Real-Life Son Talks About Collaborating With Christian Bale For Ford V Ferrari

Image
1 hour ago Throughout his career, Christian Bale has portrayed many real-life people, some long dead and some very much alive. There was John Rolfe in The New World , Dieter Dengler in Rescue Dawn , Dicky Eklund in The Fighter , and Dick Cheny in Vice . For his latest film Ford v Ferrari , Christian Bale once again portrays a real person in motorsport legend Ken Miles. In that role he received from help from Ken Miles’ real-life son, Peter. Speaking about collaborating with Christian Bale for Ford v Ferrari , Peter Miles said: Unlike Dicky Eklund whom Christian Bale was able to get to know, or Dick Cheney, for whom there is a wealth of available footage upon which to base his performance, Ken Miles is no longer around and he wasn’t a public figure in a way that would have resulted in there being a lot of videos of him. So to assist Christian Bale in preparing for the role, Peter Miles helped the actor get to know who his father was. As he told LeMans.org, Peter Miles sh

DC Will Reportedly Be Making More R-Rated Movies

Image
2 hours ago Joker is perhaps the boldest take on a comic book property on the big screen yet, and it just became the genre’s most profitable movie of all time. It’s clear audiences are ready to be challenged and unnerved by the vibrant heroes and villians between the pages of comics. Including an adult audience. Fox’s Logan and Deadpool first proved making superheroes R-rated was commercially viable and now Warner Bros looks to be taking the hint. Following the over $1 billion box office gross of Joker , DC will reportedly be producing more R-rated movies in the future. And considering this allows the Marvel rival to stand apart from the ever-dominating MCU, it’s no surprise the studio is planning to repeat its most massive success. According to Variety, a couple highly-anticipated DC movies could have an R-rating. Insiders reportedly predict the February release of Birds of Prey and James Gunn’s 2021 Suicide Squad take could be given a mature rating when they are

The Flash And Green Lantern Corps Are Reportedly Still Priorities At DC

Image
2 hours ago Even if you exclude the movies that are already scheduled for release, Warner Bros has nearly two dozen cinematic DC Comics tales in some form of development. Obviously not all of those will end up being made, but sometimes it’s hard to get a read on what’s being prioritized for the superhero film franchise. Well, according to a new report, The Flash and Green Lantern Corps still finds themselves in the priority category. Both The Flash and Green Lantern Corps were part of the initial DC Extended Universe film slate that was announced in late 2014, but the DC Films landscape has changed a lot in the last five years, and both movies were ultimately removed from their respective calendar slots. While new release dates haven’t been assigned to either just yet, according to Variety, Warner Bros is still keen on delivering The Flash and Green Lantern Corps to the masses. After cameoing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad , Flash, a.k.a.
